Another Pattern!!

copyright Music Made Visible. The CymaScope uses a high definition camera to monitor the effect of an individual sound's particular vibrations on purified water, revealing for the first time what piano notes look like

It's been awhile since I've shared anything about the Patterns in Nature project. The BioArtography art book is being drafted which will feature around seventy-five of the BioArt images. There might be a chapter on how the patterns repeat themselves at different scales.

As I get closer to thinking about class projects for Winter term I know I'll be integrating some of those images as prompts for assignments in both Costume Design 1 and Costume Crafts. The Gallery space in the Duderstadt is booked for late 2020 to showcase this work and I'm hoping colleagues from other departments will hop on board.

I just stumbled across this image (left) and am all jazzed up again! Look at this radial symmetry!! These are musical notes as captured visually by a CymaScope. At the end of the linked article you can see a clip from a Pink Floyd song.

Finding this image feels like an invitation to tighten the scope to this particular kind of symmetry for the assignment prompts and future showing.

Instead of trios, we now have quartets. Better not start looking at snowflakes...
