La Boheme is well into production. Though preliminary muslin fittings began a month ago, the first official design presentation and production meeting was this past Friday. Sometimes it feels like the "art part" is done at this point and it's all about logistics and solving the puzzle of simply not having naked people on stage! Though the drawing and painting is completed, there is still a lot of art left in all the small decisions that need to happen between now and our early November opening.
This show is huge! While the main characters are all double cast, with multiple looks, there is also a children's chorus of 10, a marching band of 12, and an adult chorus of (at least) 20. We are striving to create interesting stories on stage, so each chorus member has a specific look (a nanny, a prostitute, a vendor, a shopper, etc...) to inform the whole stage picture. Today was a very long day in stock with two assistants trying to wrangle as much of those looks as possible.
