After adding more detailed research and a series of rough sketches, part of my process is to now really fine tune the drawings, making changes based on a meeting with the director when we reviewed my roughs a couple of weeks ago. I probably spend too much time cleaning, erasing, and redrawing. It's almost a nervous tic, but I've learned a few things over the years with this process that works for me: One- to draw tight and paint loose; Two- even though the renderings may lose some of the spontaneity of the rough sketch, drapers generally find them clear, technically, which saves time; Three-while things always change throughout the production process, especially after rehearsals begin, the drawings generally accurately reflect what ends up on stage; Four- I learn my own design really well by investing time in tracing and tuning my ideas in detail. All of these were created using AutoCad Sketchbook with the "Pencil Pal" tool. Next up is color!
