Unica Taking Shape

I've engaged a student to build the pieces for Unica and our resident crafts artisan, Elizabeth Gunderson, to complete the custom paint work. I had thought to custom print the fabric using the same place for the BioArt scarves, but because there is only one to make and motif placement is key, it was better to just paint them. After completing a test sample, Elizabeth is applying Tee Juice markers, Dynaflow, and a little fabric marker to create the effect of the aging ink from Unica's notebooks.

For the suit, we decided to keep it white, but I experimented with created a torn paper effect for the edges. I printed photos of strips of spiral bound notebook frills onto heat transfers sheets, but the effect was just too subtle for stage purpose; it just didn't read.

Malcolm is busy in rehearsal composing all of these elements together. We've build in atypical pockets, loops and holes for him to rig himself to the cube frame.

Elizabeth has a good base coat of the paint work & we'll continue to add depth.
